Natural Choices for Reducing Cholesterol

Ok..here is a list of natural products that can be used for controlling cholesterol.

Again, please check with your doctor before using these products especial if you
are on medication, including cholesterol drugs!

Red Yeast Fermented Rice
This product has been used forever in Asia. It is used mainly as a food coloring and
flavouring agent! This is an amazing product. It is difficult to get, but you may still
be able to get it online or at some health food stores.

The reason it is hard to get is because it containts the active ingredient mevinolin.
Now Mevinolin is similar to lovastatin (Mevacor®), which is a cholesterol drug
made by one of the Big Pharma companies and is only available by prescription.

Because of this similarity to lovastatin, many states in the US and some countries
have banned the sale of this product. There has been speculation in natural heallth
circlesthat this ban was due to lobbying by the Phamaceutical companies to have the
product taken off the market so that they can sell the "chemical" version - complete
with side effects (of course)!

Policosanol
Policosanol is a mixture of alcohols isolated and refined from sugar cane.
In addition to lowering low density lipoprotein levels (LDL), Policosanol
increases high density lipoproteins (HDL). Policosanol also reduces blood clotting.

Beta-Sitosterol
Another great natural product for lowering blood serum cholesterol and triglycerides.
It is commonly found in foods such as wheat germ and soybeans.

Niacin
One of the B series of vitamins, niacin is a major player in fighting chlosterol.
It combats most of the problems associated with bad cholesterol numbers
including high LDL, low HDL, high tryglicerides and elevated lipoprotein,
which is a sticky by-product of LDL whch you definitely don't want in your system!
Great for improving the circulation throughout the body.

Pantethine
Another good one! Pantethine has been described as one of the best suplements for
fighting cholestorol without the side effects produced by Big Pharma drugs!

Guggul (Gugulipid)
Guggul is a yellowish resin extracted from the mukul commiphora mukul tree,
which grows in northern India.
It originally was used to treat obesitybut it can also be used to treat cholesteol
(among other things - butwe'll stick to the cholesterol theme here!).
By the way, this has no relation to Google!!

Other great cholesterol fighters
Garlic
Omega-3 Oil (Fish Oil)
Psyllium
Oats and BarleyCurcumin

There are many others, but these are the ones with which I am intrigued!
