As I grew up and started getting into natural foods, herbs and supplements, I started to hear that avocados were bad for you because they containa lot of fat. At that time low fat diets were the craze and the diet "gurus" at the time were bent on giving avaocados bad name.
Today however, avocados have been redeemed.
Research has shown that the low-fat avocado naysayers were wrong after all!
Here is the scoop on avcocados.
- Avocadoes are a great source of folate ( folic acid)potassium, beta-carotene, magnesium, iron as well as minerals and vitamins such as B6 and E.
- They are a source of monosaturated fatty acids, which are good for the heart as well as antioxidizing agents such as glutathianone whics is a cancer fighter.
- Avocados also contain beta-sitosterol, a plant sterol know for its chlosterol-busting properties that prevents cholesterol absorbtion in the intestines. In fact they contain more beta-sitosterol than some other foods like corn, olives and soybeans!
- Avocados contain the carotenoid lutein, which provides protection from eye-related illnesses such as macular degeneration and cataracts.
- Finally avocados taste great with a nice creamy texture. So do your body a favor and add some avocados to your diet!
